Genesis Of Santa Rosa Gets An Early Look At The 2021 GV80

Genesis has been known for its stellar lineup of sedans that offer buyers the height of luxury and performance at a much lower price than its European and Japanese rivals. While there's still a healthy market for sedans, today's customers demand SUVs. Genesis has risen to the challenge with the 2021 Genesis GV80. This midsize luxury SUV provides buyers at dealerships like the Genesis dealer serving Richmond area clients with fresh styling and a host of new technology features.

The 2021 Genesis GV80 gets a standard turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder powerplant. Genesis dealership customers who are looking for even more power can choose the optional twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Genesis hasn't released the specs on these engines as of this writing. We know the GV80 shares its four-cylinder engine with the 2021 Kia Optima GT. In that model, the powerplant develops 286 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine is expected to be similar to the one under the hood of the Genesis sedans, so look for specs in excess of 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Both engines get an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional. It's still too early for EPA-estimated fuel-economy figures.

The Inside Of The 2021 GV80 Is Comfort All Throughout

On the inside, the driver and passengers are treated to an interior that's even more luxurious than the automaker's sedan models. The cabin has features built-in ambient lighting, metal accents, wood trim and a sizeable infotainment display. Although the materials are upscale, the interior has minimalistic, graceful styling. We front seats are supportive and comfortable, with an available massage function designed for the ultimate in relaxation. The 2021 Genesis GV80 seats five passengers, but buyers can add an available third row.

The 2021 Genesis GV80 gets a new version of Highway Driving Assist (HAD). This system can now learn how the owner drives the vehicle, including the braking, acceleration, and following distance. HDA is even capable of changing lanes automatically after the turn signal is activated. The navigation system can now overlay driving directions onto an image of the road supplied by the GV80's forward-facing camera.

This Genesis Dealer Likes Entertainment And The GV80 Provides

The Genesis GV80's infotainment system has a 14.5-inch touchscreen that wraps around the center of the dashboard. The touchscreen should give front-seat passengers the ability to change the radio station and operate the navigation system. The driver can also operate the infotainment system using a click-wheel controller mounted on the center console.

IIHS and NHTSA crash-test results aren't available at this time, but Genesis sedans have always received good ratings from these agencies, so we expect good ratings for the 2021 Genesis GV80. Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning.

The GV80 provides one of the automotive industry's best standard warranties, with outstanding powertrain coverage. Genesis supplies a 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. GV80 drivers also receive complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.

We'll have further details about the 2021 Genesis GV80 when they become available.
